SGH Lecture #1 1st Year SGH Lecture on disaster prevention and mitigation

2015/4/30

The 1st SGH lecture for all 1st year students took place on Thursday, April 30. The title of the lecture was “Disaster prevention and mitigation in Japan and Asia”, and was delivered by Professor Satoru Fujii (a graduate of our school) of the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University.

Messages conveyed include: “Risk is having no information. It is important to gather and examine as much information as possible.” and “One never knows what and when things will happen. However, it is possible to assume from past experiences.”

Questions from students include “What can we do before the next disaster occurs?”

After the lecture, students were divided into groups to summarize the points of Professor Fujii’s lecture and to discuss why they thought these messages were delivered.
